You've Been Googled

Sorry about the short hiatus. We had busy weekend; more on that later.

First, though, I have a question. Google has now become a verb (thus making Dr. Suess' vocabulary not look quite so ridiculous). And I wonder by a show of hands --nevermind that just won't work-- show me by your comments:

who out there has googled your own name?

Now for those of you who think this sounds rather vain. It's obvious that I've at least done it, so you're not alone. So comment, because at least you have my company and I say, "ain't no shame."

What comes up?

Do you come up (not some other random person that happens to be super lucky to have your same name)?

Are you proud of what it tells about you? Your cyber legacy?

I have googled my name, out of sheer curiosity. Most of them have nothing to do with me. When I enter my previous city I got a link to a comment I made on a desnews article. Aaron's name comes up in articles he contributed to and links to "staff and faculty" directory for his current job.

I guess I should share what I found.

I can find my blog and a couple of other blogs that I've commented on. Also I find a random 5k race I ran back at BYU. Luckily I did it in 32 minutes, so it's not totally shameful.

If you look at the other Mindy M* that's NOT me, you'll find Ms. M* has written a bunch of research articles on sex....hmmmmm, sounds steamy.

I actually come up. But it is just a link to one of my professors in grad school who cites my masters thesis on his vita.

I happened to google your name along with your stage name and it sent me to a website that I did not feel comfortable opening at work.

:)

I google my name 5 times a day hoping that I will make it big time one day. But . . . . . .nuthin!

btw, I really meant to have a conversation about this word verification - we are getting close to being in a fight!

I just did now. I'm on the front page a couple times that can be linked back to me. My wedding photography site, my husbands blog (mine didn't cause I have it set to not work with search engines and I need to remind K. to do the same with his), and my facebook I believe. There is another person with my name in Utah (I found this out when PG and out records got mixed up at the OB's). But now I've seen her picture, and I guess there's another one in Ogden Utah...

I've done it before, but I just did it again.

The very first hit is about ME! I won an award/scholarship-type thing in college and it shows up. Cool, eh?

I goggled it to see who had written about my cancer story on their blogs and the Charity Kit (digital scrapbooking) that they had made me. It made me cry to see how much people cared. Now I just check every once in a while to make sure the magazines have paid me for all of my articles they have published. That's because they used one of my scrapbook pages in their email advertising and had not paid me for it or even had me sign a contract. Not that you needed to know all of that...

I have but the only thing about me that comes up is my name on my sister in laws blog. The rest are not about me, I am not exciting enough to make it in the internet world!

Hey girl I ran across your blog on the Bullocks blog! You crack me up! So can I add you to our blog list in efforts to look cool or should I say cooler??
I googled myself and found college stuff (scholarships and such). Nice ego boost there, it's nice to remember I used to be smart. That's all the dirt on me, not to many Caroline A's out there. Go to our family blog, if you're interested in spying on us too :)

Yes, I have too... there is a very famous and talented artist with my same name. So some of my friends from school think it is the now very successful artist "me"... however, some of this artist's work is very "inappropriate" and I have had a few people give me hard time about being a Mormon artist and creating such "provocative" works.

I have done it. Lots of times. WIth my current name my blog comes up, with my maiden name eventually some stuff I did in college comes up. I even managed to incorporate the act of googling of my name into my personal statement for law school. I'm a big believer in googling anything and everything.

I found entries about work I did with the school district but the main entries were for a professor and for an author. The author wrote a book about her behavior disordered sons. Sells for $48+. Guess I won't go deeper into that subject... Also interesting to go back to your maiden name.

Very interesting question: lv mil :>)

I Want to Hear From You!
