The Nutcracker

Two nights ago, Steven and I were lucky recipients of two excellent tickets to The Nutcracker performed by none other than the H* Ballet. I felt very cosmopolitan as we rubbed elbows with other theater regulars.

Though I took ballet lessons as a child and have always loved the ballet, I've never been to a performance of The Nutcracker. Nope, not even by elementary school-aged children. My parents were never really into that sort of cultural thing. They found it dry and dull. Maybe it's the background and training, but I thought it was fabulous! I think my own children are still too young to appreciate it (or even sit through it for that matter), but it will definitely be something I introduce them to.

Thanks to John and Elizabeth for the tickets! We're only sorry we couldn't all go together.

I'm jealous - Jay will go to the theater and symphony, but not the ballet - guess The Nutcracker will be a mother/daughter activity when Chelsea gets older.

I was just telling David the other night The Nutcracker would be so fun to see. My parents had symphony tickets one season and I got to go a time or two, but it wasn't something they ever did again... it was fun, even just to wear my best church dress and go rub shoulders among the 'culturally astute'... so to speak (o: Actually, I don't much enjoy having to keep conversation in settings like that, but I love the music.

When I was younger my family would go see a local production of the Nutcracker every year. I always knew at least one person in the production. I love the cultural arts, but honestly, the Nutcracker is about the only ballet I could sit through. Although I do love the music from the ballet! Glad you could go and see a profession performance, I would love to get to do that sometime!
