Snopes

I'm going to have to get this off my chest sooner or later.

This is bound to offend a lot of people. But it may limit the forwarded emails I'll receive in the future.

I'm tired of missing persons emails, fixed pictures, get rich quick scams, etc, etc. This phenomenon of forwarding erroneous emails is worse than gossip. One little click can let everyone in your contacts know any number of falsehoods. It's like people are working for the Inquirer's circulation staff. My last favorite was an email claiming the government had new coin in circulation that had the phrase "In God We Trust" removed. Not true.

Here's a little hint, folks. All it takes is a little time of your own (gasp!), check out the email you get at SNOPES.COM. It's likely to save our relationship.

I'm offended.

And if you don't forward this to 10 of your friends you don't love God.

Actually, I'd like to take it one step farther (or further...I don't know which):

I don't want forwards unless they are from reputable news sources like cnn.com, ksl.com, foxnews.com, or from a corporate site. Or from my own blog, of course.

I just received a picture of Obama standing infront of an American Flag, not covering his heart. The email claimed that he refused to say the pledge of allegance or cover his heart during the national anthem. Now, I'm not voting for him, but c'mon...He's running for president and no news site has caught on to the fact that he loathes our flag?

Please.

Give me a reference.

And, once again, pass this on to everyone you know or bad things will happen to you, or you don't love God, or this country.

I couldnt agree with you more. If I get one more email saying that "I should send it to ten people and if I get it back ten times then I am REALLY loved"....
I mean seriously.

I hate those emails too. I always delete them and never send them on. I don't even send the ones on that my dad sends me that HAVE been checked out on snopes. Great to read, but I just don't care to send them on.

What my dear is your problem?

I hope you feel better after this post.

Mindy,

I applaud your grassroots effort to take back cyberspace. Let us unite. Let us all hold hands and march, as a united front, into cyber-future, committed to not email stupid stuff. Let us all watch the episode of The Office where Dwight gives his acceptance speech and pounds his fists and waves his arms and yells dictator-like things.

This is our time.

We cannot do everything, but we can do something.

We either stand for something or we'll fall for anything,

And, the neat thing is, you can copy/paste what I just typed and forward it to the ten friends you love the most. If you don't, you don't really love them and you are ashamed of our country, or religion, and of NASA.

LOL . . . NASA? O.M.G. Is this guy seriously a "leader" in "the" Church?

ME TOO!!!

John,

Just get baptized (non-white shirt an all) and then we can make fun of NASA all we want.

Stop stalling.

The comments on your blog are as fun to read as your blog itself.
